3Z RF Vision Antenna Alignment Tool: Line-of-Sight

When it comes to performing antenna alignments, ensuring accuracy is extremely important. And, with the roll-out of 5G well underway, that accuracy is even more important. This week, our Gear Experts® are going to break down the 3Z RF Vision Antenna Alignment Tool’s line of sight capabilities.

New Mandates and Why Line-Of-Sight is Important for 5G

One of the US major wireless carriers recently issue a mandate requiring antenna installers to include pictures taken by their alignment tool (also referred to as Line-Of-Sight Images or LOS) in their close-out reports. This mandate also requires installers to notify RF engineers of any near-field obstructions. The new mandates for LOS are especially important when it comes to setting up 5G networks. It’s important because near-field blockage can quickly render beam forming links unusable.

The Future of Antenna Alignment

The future of antenna alignment will be antenna aligners with cameras built-in. A visual line-of-sight image for each antenna in a mobile network is proving extremely valuable for RF engineering teams when making coverage and capacity decisions. With the RF Vision Antenna Alignment Tool from 3Z generating LOS reports is easier than ever. The RF Vision is the only antenna alignment tool with a mechanically aligned built-in camera that features augmented reality capable of meeting this requirement.

The Camera

The built-in camera allows RF engineers to visually identify obstacles and optimize equipment accordingly. Examples of obstacles include trees, buildings, power lines, and other man-made or natural structures. It also allows the engineers to visually verify coverage objectives for each antenna as well as visually identify capacity challenges. Capacity challenges include things like stadiums, shopping malls, and other places where large groups of people gather. Lastly, it allows the engineer to see exactly what the technician is seeing - which can improve communication.

Reports

The RV Vision embeds LOS images with recorded alignment data like sector, site ID, target measured azimuth, tilt, and roll to create quick, clear, and concise reports - giving both the contractor and carrier piece of mind. Report generation and sharing is also extremely easy. Once you ensure the antenna is correctly aligned using the built-in augmented reality and bullseye targeting system, simply click the disc icon on the device, save the PDF report, and share it from a mobile device in real-time. For more information on using the bullseye targeting system, click here to check out our video over that process. → Click here to see the RF Vision Antenna Alignment Tool → Click here to see all 3Z products. **The content of this blog is not intended to replace proper, in-depth training. Product Spotlight: Sterling Aztek Elite Haul System

When it comes to lifting and rigging – the ability to create a mechanical advantage and lift weights that you wouldn’t normally be able to lift can make the job a lot easier. This week, our Gear Experts® are going to break down the Aztek Elite Haul System from Sterling Rope.

Mechanical Advantage

Before we cover the haul system, let’s spend some time talking about mechanical advantage. Mechanical advantage is a term that is used quite often when referring to lifting and rigging equipment and is usually written like this – 4:1. But, what is it and what does it mean? Mechanical advantage is the measure of the force amplification achieved by using a tool, mechanical device, or haul system. The device preserves the input power and simply trades off forces against movement to obtain an application in output force. Essentially mechanical advantage multiplies the force you apply. The expression 4:1 means that the device reduces the effort to lift an object by 4. For example, if you want to lift 100 pounds a 4:1 mechanical advantage would allow you to only exert 25 pounds of force.

The Sterling Aztek Elite Haul System

Let’s start with a broad overview of the Aztek Elite Haul System. This system used multiple sewn cord products to create a custom mechanical advantage system for teams and individuals alike. With this kit, you can configure up to a 5:1 (five to one) mechanical advantage, or a 4:1 mechanical advantage with a change of direction. This customization ability makes this kit exceptionally versatile for an edge restraint, back tie, load release hitch, litter rigging, and attendant attachments, plus many other applications.

What’s Included?

The system consists of: The Aztek Bag is made of rugged nylon, features two distinct compartments for organization, and can easily be transferred from person to person utilizing its simple belt and clip. NOTE: This kit [insert link here] comes disassembled and will require a few minutes to set up before it is ready to be used. Check out the video below for a tutorial on how to properly configure the kit. If you’re looking for a haul kit that is compact, but tough enough to get the job done, the Sterling Rope Aztek Elite Haul System does not disappoint. Got more questions or need more information? Product Spotlight: Narda RadMan 2XT RF Monitor

Introducing the all-new Radman 2XT RF Monitor 5G Monitor from GME Supply   5G is finally here. Telecom crews around the world are gearing up to start installing 5G equipment. And, with new equipment, there are new hazards to be aware of. As North America’s Premier Outfitter of fall protection, safety equipment, and gear for at-height workers, it’s part of our mission to make sure we have the gear you need to stay safe on the job.

A True 5G RF Monitor

The wait for a true 5G RF monitor is finally over. The RadMan 2XT RF Monitor from Narda is an affordable RF detection solution. Broadcasting, telecommunications, and radar antennas are all sources of electromagnetic hazards. That means technicians must be trained on those hazards. They must also be provided with equipment to monitor and avoid overexposure. For more information on RF fundamentals, our Gear Experts broke down RF in a previous blog post.

The Narda RadMan 2XT RF Monitor

The RadMan 2XT features isotropic sensors for both the E and H Fields. That means it measures both electrical and magnetic radiation omnidirectionally. This powerful device features one of the widest detectable frequency ranges available. The E Field frequency ranges from 900kHz to 60 GHz while the H Field is capable of 27MHz to 1GH. No other monitor covers all current and planned 5G frequencies with isotropic sensors for both E and H Fields at this price point. In fact, this combination of features makes the RadMan the best option for body-worn RF detection on the market.

Jam-Packed with Features

We mentioned body-worn above. This device can securely attach to a worker’s harness. It also provides a highly detectable warning signal when permissible exposure levels are reached. The Field exposure level is indicated by the six LED lights on the device. When alerting of dangerous levels, the device emits flashing lights, noticeable vibrations, and a loud tone that you can’t miss. Percentages of levels are displayed on the screen on the front of the device. They are part of a “shaped response”. This means the technician can tell, at a glance, the level of RF that they’re being exposed to in relation to the FCC’s approved permissible exposure levels. The shaped response makes it easier for workers to take the protective measures they’ve been trained to use. Simply put, the device does the math for the technician.

Housing

When you’re climbing up a tower or working on a roof, size and weight matter. The build of the RadMan 2XT RF Monitor is compact and light. It weighs an incredible 0.4 pounds and is only 6.5 inches long. The small size doesn’t sacrifice capabilities, though. The battery can pump out 800 hours of monitoring (depending on the alarm settings). And, the quick charge feature gives you 8 hours of detection time from a 5-minute charge. The included RF absorber reduces the signal reflection caused by the body of the device giving you more accurate and dependable protection. Plus, it can be released from the attachment with one hand allowing you to determine the Field exposure away from your body. An elastic tether is also included with the device to prevent it from being dropped.

Self-Testing & Memory

Thanks to the newly developed automatic senor test, the sensors receive a correct function test every time the device is turned on – providing additional assurance. And, the RadMan 2XT RF Monitor saves the exposure values for the E and H Fields continuously. It even goes a step further and adds a timestamp to each data set. The device can save up to 100,000 events and with the RadMan2-TS software, data can easily be transferred to a computer via USB for reporting.
